Winning Is Everything

I always believed that I have a story to tell. I always have a passion to communicate my views with others. To share my beliefs and views about the important issues relating to our everyday life. Growing up in the southern part of africa, I had a lot of learning to do as far as the world is concerned. My father who was and still is a great influence in my life, had a lot to do with my hunger for knowledge. See he never went to school himself, since the age of 8 years old, preached about how important it was for us to be lawyers. Now I know and understand why he always wanted to see us sitting on the other side of the table instead of the ones who come in to consult. It is so funny though that, a father can say the same thing to both his kids but the interpretation of what he meant will be different. Why is that? Why would my brother perceive it one way and I perceive it the other? Does it have to do with the relationship between the father and son? I think so, see my siblings thought I was my father's favorite. We had a lot in common and that could be mistaken for favoritism. My older brother did not play soccer, so me and my father talked about soccer all the time matter of fact thats the only thing we ever talked about. I can't remember a day without talking about soccer. I lived, dreamt, ate, slept, pretty much did everything through soccer. I must admit soccer opened a lot of doors in my life. I will elaborate on the how so later.

Back to being a favorite, you could say I was not close to my mother since she didnt play soccer and my older brother was close to my mother. Now you could perceive it as my brother being my mother's favorite. That thought crossed my mind at some point in time. But that was quickly squashed when I realised that I needed my mother and wanted my father. See my mother was a person you could go to when you need anything and she will stick her neck out for you, on the other hand, my father was there for mostly to toughen you up. To make you to be a man. To help you deal with the outside world. That was my father's territory.

Winning was everything when it came to my father. I had to learn ways to play to win. I'm still learning even today ways that will help me to eventually win. See to me life could be viewed in many ways. I view life in several ways, for example, life is a game (could be a game of soccer, tennis, boxing, puzzle or even poker are all among ways that I view life and I turn to incorporate them in the wonderful journey of ours) and to every game there are rules that one needs to abide by. Therefore many times a lot of us try to play outside these boundaries and as we all know playing outside the rules you get panelized. Therefore the main point of this book is to teach us, myself include, ways that will help us to play in such a way that you win. Another example I like to use is a marathon. I will elaborate later how this relate to friends and life.

thank you for today we will continue next time.....
